The Cancer and Allied Ailments Research (CARE) Foundation is a non-profitable charity organization launched by the Calicut City Service Co-operative Bank in 2011. The Foundation was started to join the greater fight against cancer. The Kerala Government, with special permission, allowed the Calicut City Service Cooperative Bank to release a loan of $ 100 m (INR 7000 m) to the Foundation for a hospital at Choloor, Velallasseri, Kozhikode. Thus began the work of MVR Cancer Centre and Research Institute on November 13, 2015, with the then Kerala Chief Minister laying the foundation stone. The Foundation has 17 members – 15 professionals from different walks of life and two government nominees. Donations to CARE are exempted from tax. Website: www.carecalicut.org
